The Pentagon and the USNO - Two Unique DC Attractions

 Washington D.C. is one of the most visited cities in the nation. We all know the President lives there. We know about Capitol Hill, the monuments, and the museums. There are almost unlimited ways to theme a tour to this great city - government, anthropology, history, civics, and countless more. Two attractions, sometimes overlooked, will be the focus here. Both might be excellent choices for those with an interest in our military and its various duties. The second is also for the astronomer and for the seeker in all of us who likes to contemplate our place in the vast universe. They are the boulderpentagon and the US Naval Observatory. Both of these amazing attractions require advanced scheduling - at least two weeks for the Pentagon and four to six for the Naval Observatory. Power of the Pentagon - Arlington's Biggest Office

  Few people from the United States or beyond have not heard of the Pentagon: the headquarters of the USA Department of Defense, situated in Arlington, Virginia. The Pentagon's massive size has earned it the title of one of the world's largest buildings, housing about 23,000 military and civilian employees, and around 3000 non-defense personnel. It has five sides (hence the name), five floors and five ring corridors, boulderpentagon which give it a total of 17.5 miles worth of walkways. The centre courtyard has an area of 5 acres and is the world's largest military "no-hat, no salute" zone - a place where military personnel are forbidden to salute or wear hats that could allow anyone watching to denote their rank.
